AGC of America is conducting an economic survey
over the next few weeks to determine the impact of compliance costs for contractors on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) notice for proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on confined space in construction. If enacted in its present form, this rule will create significant training, personnel and compliance costs for all sectors of the construction industry. FMCSA proposes new training rules Details Here FHWA's new rule regarding the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Cutback asphalt will be banned during the ozone season, May 1 to September 30, under regulations proposed and finalized by the Department of Environmental Protection, effective January 1, 2009. CONNDOT COMMISSIONER RALPH CARPENTER announced that he is retiring effective January 1, 2008. (more) OSHA PROPOSED NEW rules covering confined space in construction on November 28, 2007. (more) OSHA’S RULE addressing employer payment for personal protective equipment (PPE) was issued on November 15, 2007 and has to be implemented by the employer by May 15, 2008. The 90-page rule applies to the construction industry and requires employers to pay for PPE (ex. hard hats, safety glasses, welding helmets), with limited exceptions. The rule does not require employers to provide PPE where none had been required before.
