OSHA PROPOSED NEW rules covering confined space in construction on November 28, 2007.
The proposal requires employers to determine if there is a confined space at a job site, and to classify the space according to physical and atmospheric hazards.
OSHA’s proposal identifies four confined space hazard classifications: Isolated-Hazard, Controlled-Atmosphere, Permit-Required, and Continuous System-Permit Required. The appropriate safety and health standards would depend on how the confined space is classified.
The agency is accepting comments on the proposed rules until January 28, 2008. To review the proposal, visit OSHA's Confined Space in Construction Proposal.
