    Construction NewsBRIEFS! 4-26-2012

The Senate-passed transportation bill, MAP-21, would protect 1.9 million jobs nationwide and create one million more jobs through leveraging transportation funds, according to Senate leadership of the Environment and Public Works Committee and a state-by-state breakdown prepared by U.S. DOT. Total jobs supported in Connecticut would be 23,800: 18,300 in highways and 5,500 in transit.

The Internal Revenue Service is seeking civic-minded volunteers from Connecticut, among several other states, to serve on the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, a federal advisory committee that listens to taxpayers, identifies key issues, and makes recommendations for improving IRS service. Applications for TAP will be accepted through April 27, 2012.

The Governor proclaimed April 2012 as Call Before You Dig Month in the state, issuing an official statement encouraging citizens to become familiar with CBYD and to phone its statewide toll-free number (1-800-922-4455) before excavating anywhere in the state.
