Construction NewsBRIEFS! 8-20-2012

The Regulation Review Committee rejected a proposed regulation from the Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection that would add surface coating emissions requirements for metal parts and expand them for plastic parts at its meeting last month. The agency can revise and resubmit the regulation for consideration and approval.

Federal wage and hour lawsuits filed under the Fair Labor Standards Act, according to research by the law firm Seyfarth Shaw using data confirmed by the Federal Judicial Center, show a steady increase in number during 2012. A principal in the firm attributes the recent spike in cases over the past few years partially to a slumping economy, such as people who lost their jobs during the economic downturn, or lawyers steering potential clients away from a wrongful termination suit in favor of a wage and hour suit because the law is often difficult to interpret.
