Construction NewsBRIEFS! 8-29-2012

The White House announced on Aug. 20, as part of its We Can’t Wait initiative, that it would expedite the permit and review process for four nationally and regionally significant surface transportation projects. Coordination among agencies on the four projects, in Maine, North Dakota, Oregon and Washington State, is designed to make the process more efficient and effective, saving time while driving better outcomes for local communities.

Methods to detect and track vehicles intruding into a work zone, and to detect missing work zone channelization traffic control devices such as barrels were examined in a report from the Transportation Research Board. The intent was to enable activation of early warnings for workers and drivers so that they can avoid hazards.
