What is Work-Based Learning?

Work-Based Learning (WBL) is a part of the CTECS Student Workforce, developed with the Connecticut Department of Labor that permits students 16 and older to work in all trades, including high-hazard trades during their trade instructional time. The students can work for employers two days a week in their junior yea,  3 days a week in their senior year, and if their academic requirements are met, they can work full-time starting January of their senior year.

Why get involved?

CTECS is committed to becoming the primary pipeline of Connecticut’s skilled labor workforce by actively adapting their curriculum to meet industry needs and reinvigorating interest in the trades by partnering with business leaders to create visible and viable career opportunities.

Your company’s involvement is an in investment in the development of a streamlined training and hiring process across trades and throughout the state while gaining access to CTECS pool of talented young tradespeople.

Foster the next generation of CT’s construction workers by offering young people careers, not just jobs, demonstrating that work in the trades can be an attractive alternative to the college before career trajectory.
