A significant level of investment, $188.4 billion, in stormwater infrastructure spread equally over the next five years would generate $265.6 billion in economic activity and create close to 1.9 million jobs, according to “Water Works: Rebuilding Infrastructure, Creating Jobs, Greening the Environment”, a recent report from Green For All, a national organization working to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty and dedicated to improving the lives of all Americans through a clean energy economy.
Stepped-up scrutiny of unemployment benefits is part of the Obama administration’s government-wide effort to reduce the $125 billion in “improper payments” the government made in 2010, according to Stateline.org. Unemployment insurance was identified as one of the “high-error” programs partly because the error rate of 11% ($17.5 billion) was more than double the 5% rate that the administration set as a goal. The enormous size of the program, which paid out $156 billion in benefits last year, also was a factor.
