Any person who offers conveyor and crane installation, maintenance, repair or alteration services must be licensed to perform such work according to a recent notice restating the requirements and penalties issued to local building officials from the Occupational and Professional Licensing Division in the Dept. of Consumer Protection.
The President’s 2013 Budget provides $4.7 billion for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Civil Works, a $271 million or 5.4% decrease from the 2012 enacted level. While it focuses on the highest priority work within the agency’s main missions in light of tight discretionary restraints, the proposal cuts funding for continuing and new construction of dams, canals and other water projects that supply power and drinking water in the West. Construction spending is reduced from about $1.69 billion to $1.47 billion.
The White House Council on Jobs and Competitiveness has released a report, Road Map to Renewal, which recommends a pro-business tax overhaul and regulatory streamlining. The year-end report is its third; in its October report, the jobs council recommended reauthorizing the main surface transportation programs; leveraging and expanding existing public-private infrastructure financing mechanisms; creating a national infrastructure financing organization to attract private capital to infrastructure projects; protecting and preserving the user-based funding of the Highway Trust Fund; and streamlining permitting and approval processes for jobs-rich infrastructure.
