Construction NewsBRIEFS! 10/15/2012

Federal regulators would be required to better weigh how shifts in regulations affect industries concerned against the potential broader economic or social benefits of proposed regulations under S. 3468, the Independent Agency Regulatory Analysis Act of 2012. The bill, filed in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, would require executive branch agencies to draft rules to be simple and easy to understand, with the goal of minimizing the potential for uncertainty and litigation.

Economic development efforts focusing on infrastructure, such as cleaning up and redeveloping contaminated property, restoring historic structures, revitalizing small town Main Streets, maximizing the economic potential of airports and bioscience research facilities, and providing the fiscal and organizational wherewithal to meet business needs, are some of the legislature’s recent major business and job growth initiatives designed to counteract the recent economic slowdown, as highlighted in a recent report from the Office of Legislative Research.
